Who am I really? 10 questions you need to ask yourself to take back control of your life.

Are we born as we are? Or do we become what we are? Is our life all mapped out? Or do we act according to our destiny? So many philosophical questions that lead to the same question: who am I really?

Self-knowledge is fundamental to making your choices, fighting for your values, pursuing your goals and your life mission…

In this article I will ask you 10 very concrete questions to get to know you better and help me reconnect with you.

Improve your self-knowledge in 10 questions

1. Who would you be if you couldn’t fail?

The fear of failure terrifies us all. It prevents us from following our deepest desires and pursuing our dreams.

But then, what would happen if failure didn’t exist? If you were sure you could achieve everything you dream of, what would you do? Imagine the life you would have. I bet it would be radically different! You would definitely be more courageous and creative. You would leave behind negative thoughts and fear of rejection. Reconnect more and consciously with your inner child, the one who still believes that everything is possible and that nothing and no one can stop you! What if I made some mistakes? Well, forgive yourself because no action can be perfect, those who don’t act are never wrong!

2. How would you introduce yourself in 60 seconds?

English Giles use this technique to impress a person in situations where time is limited. It is no coincidence that they call it: “Elevator pitch”.

You might be tempted to describe what you do for work, but for this exercise I want you to go beyond that.

What is your character, your personality? How are you physically? How do your friends describe you? While it’s easier to describe the negatives when we talk about ourselves, make an effort to find as many positives as possible. What are your values? What is really important to you? The idea is that the person you’re talking to (imaginary) really understands who you are. At the same time, you will also have better knowledge about yourself.

3. How would you like to describe yourself?

Think about the person you would like to be. The ideal version of yourself. The personality and character you would like to have. Your core values. Maybe you have people or characters from your past who inspire you. What are the things that differentiate them and that you admire about them? Having a clear idea of the type of person you want to become will allow you to get to know yourself better and evolve in the right direction.

4. What makes you happy?

They can be activities, places, people, animals, situations, music… Don’t think about what made you happy before, because we change and our interests also change over time. Ask yourself this question now: to find out what truly makes you happy, try reconnecting with your body. Observe your feelings while doing an activity or talking to a person. If you experience rather pleasant sensations, if you feel light-headed, then it is a good sign and probably this thing makes you happy.

5. What don’t you like?

Conversely, what don’t you like? Are there things, people or situations that you don’t like, that make you uncomfortable or even make you feel stuck in your life? What stresses you or gives you unpleasant sensations in your body?

6. If money were no object, would you live differently?

In our capitalist societies, money has taken a colossal place. We pay a lot of attention to it and it is often a key factor in our decisions.

Do you hate your job but have a good salary? You will definitely think twice before changing jobs. Do you dream of opening a restaurant? Yes, but it requires a huge initial investment! Would you like to make a living with your drawings? That’s all well and good, but it won’t pay for your holiday in the Maldives (or at least that’s what you think!). Yet, if you thought about what you really want to do with your life, without taking the financial aspect into consideration, you would understand more who you really are deep inside and what you are on this Earth for.

If you didn’t receive a salary for the work you do, would you still do it, perhaps to a lesser extent or not at all?

7. What do you do outside of work?

Again, work doesn’t entirely define you. List what you do outside of work that gives you energy and motivation. Those things that give meaning to your life. A sport? A creative activity? Volunteer in an association? If you can’t find anything, think about what you’d like to do.

8. Who do you spend the most time with? What kind of person would you like to be with?

The quality of our lives is directly proportional to the quality of our relationships. In the Coaching environment, in fact, we are the average of the 5 people we spend the most time with.

This makes sense because we tend to be close to people who are similar to us. It is therefore an excellent exercise in self-knowledge to observe those around you. age.

who are they? What are they doing? How do they work? How do they speak? How do they dress? How much do they earn?

If you think these people are not like you or the person you want to be, then think about the kind of person you would like to be with. This will be very revealing of who you want to become.

9. How do you want people to remember you?

How do you want people to remember you as a man, woman, brother, sister, father, mother, friend, colleague, boss… By answering this question you will see your fundamental values emerge, what you fight for every day, what is really important for you. You will thus achieve a superior knowledge of yourself that will allow you to align your actions and words with what you want to radiate around you.

10. What impact do you have or want to have on those close to you?

In addition to how you want people to remember you, think about the impact you want to have on those close to you. Part of having a meaningful life is being helpful to others. What do you give to others? What influences those close to you in your way of being or in your actions? Do you offer support, love, a shoulder to cry on? Are you present emotionally, physically or materially for those around you?

Now think bigger. What impact does your presence on Earth have? Maybe through your job or your volunteer hours? By directly or indirectly helping people in need? Getting involved in your community? Or just smiling or being open-minded? There are 1000 ways to have a positive impact on the world and perhaps today by reading this article you have started to find 1 more idea to live your life better.
